Dental Hygiene Services in Coquitlam

Recall and hygiene appointments are the most effective way to avoid complex and expensive dental procedures.
Regular hygiene appointments are the most effective way of treating a periodontal disease or maintaining periodontal health. The hygienist performs scaling and root planing (debridement) to remove plaque and calculus from the tooth surfaces. This is done using powered instruments such as an ultrasonic instrument and/or hand instruments. The frequency of hygiene appointments is tailored to the special needs of each patient
With regular examinations, problems can be treated at their earliest and most treatable stage, and dental work done will be maintained at its best quality.

Tooth Coloured Dental Fillings

When plaque stays on the tooth for more than 24 hours it causes decay which weakens and destroys tooth enamel. Decay grows in size with time and should be treated as soon as possible to prevent root canal treatment and potentially tooth loss. The affected portion of the tooth is cleaned and restored by a filling. Traditionally silver amalgam fillings were used to restore teeth. They are easily visible, and also they contain mercury. Many dental professionals state, due to the toxic nature of mercury, amalgam fillings can be harmful to one’s health.
Composite is the filling material of choice in most cases. Composite fillings are completely mercury-free. We precisely match the shade of the filling material to your tooth so that it looks completely natural.
Furthermore, composites have increased versatility as they can be used not only as a filling but also to repair chipped, broken, or worn teeth, close spaces between teeth, and lengthen small or misshapen teeth.
Composite fillings are very durable and, if the teeth are properly cared for, will last many years.

Dental Crowns in Coquitlam

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that fits snugly over a tooth, completely covering it. Teeth that are broken down or structurally weak can benefit from crowns which hold the tooth together, provide strength, and prevent further fracture. Teeth can be structurally weak due to large restorations, root canal treatment, or visible crack lines. Crowns are typically made of ceramic or gold. Ceramic crowns look completely natural.

Teeth Whitening (At Home/In Office)

We can safely whiten the discolorations in the enamel of your teeth. Discolorations can be due to age, coffee, red wine, tobacco, coloured foods, some medications, disease, injury or medical treatments.
Teeth whitening can be achieved through different methods:
In the Dentist Clinic – Higher whitening strength for immediate results
Take Home – At home whitening for your convenience
On the Go – Quick touch-ups wherever, whenever
How does it work? When a whitening product is applied to the teeth, it breaks down into water and oxygen ions. The oxygen ions enter the enamel and attack the long stain molecules to effectively break them down to be short and colourless. These short and colourless molecules are then naturally removed from the tooth by saliva. The intensity of whitening is related to the number of oxygen ions available and the length of time they are on the tooth.
Teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to have an evaluation prior to this treatment. Replacement of old white fillings or crowns on front teeth might be needed so that they match your newly whitened teeth.

Coquitlam Laser Dentistry

Soft-tissue laser is a very useful adjunct piece of technology used for a variety of dental procedures including crown and bridge work, cosmetic gum recontouring, hygiene services, and canker and cold sore removal.
Use of soft tissue lasers reduces the risk of post-operative infections significantly. Many articles in the literature have demonstrated the tremendous ability of lasers to be both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

Veneers in Coquitlam

A veneer is a very thin ceramic shell that is permanently cemented onto the prepared surface of the tooth. It is a conservative way of giving someone a smile with whiter, brighter and more beautifully shaped teeth. Veneers appear very natural and can be the ultimate smile makeover treatment. Since they fit over the front of teeth, they transform the smile by completely concealing imperfections. Ceramic veneers can be used to close spaces between teeth, lengthen small or misshapen teeth, or whiten stained or dark teeth.

BioClear Restorations

BioClear Injection Molding Technique is a new system that uses composite material, easily bonded to any part of the tooth, to close the gaps, align uneven teeth, cover chips and even out the colour. 30% of adults have black triangles, clinically known as open gingival or gum embrasures (spaces). This is often due to bone loss and recession of the gum line, and sometimes due to movement of the teeth after orthodontics or gum surgery. Dark spaces between the teeth can make the teeth look old. They are also prone to accumulate food debris encouraging excessive plaque build-up. Using a special composite bonding technique, we can close these gaps improving the integrity of the gum and the appearance of your smile! Here are some advantages of BioClear restorations:

– Minimally Invasive
– Cost-Effective
– Great Results
– Shade Matches Your Tooth
– Beautiful Shine and Smooth to the Touch
– Completed in a Single VisitMost of the Time

Dr. Gissou Golpira is one of the few dentists in Greater Vancouver who has been certified by The BIOCLEAR training centre in Tacoma Washington.
