Sedation Dentistry

A more relaxed dental experience for patients who feel anxious or uncomfortable about treatment.

Sedation Dentistry

We understand that dental appointments can feel stressful or overwhelming for some patients, particularly those who have had difficult dental experiences in the past. Oral sedation can help patients feel more relaxed and comfortable while receiving dental treatment.

What It Is & How It Works

Oral sedation is used to help reduce anxiety and make dental appointments more manageable for patients who find dental treatment stressful.

Who Needs This Treatment

Oral sedation may be appropriate for patients who experience:

  • High levels of dental fear or anxiety

  • Previous traumatic dental experiences

  • Very sensitive teeth

  • A strong gag reflex

  • Difficulty becoming numb with local anaesthetic

  • Extensive dental treatment needs

  • Difficulty sitting comfortably through longer appointments

  • General anxiety or discomfort about dental visits

Benefits
  • Helps reduce anxiety during treatment

  • Can make dental appointments feel more manageable

  • May help patients with a strong gag reflex or sensitive teeth

  • Can support patients requiring extensive dental treatment

The Process

Before treatment, the dentist reviews your health history and discusses your level of dental anxiety and the treatment being planned to determine whether oral sedation is appropriate.

You will receive specific instructions for preparing for your appointment and for after your treatment. During the procedure, sedation is used to help you remain more relaxed while the dental team completes your care. Because sedation requires appropriate patient assessment, monitoring, and safety precautions, instructions are provided based on the type and level of sedation being used.
